Our dedication to being green to our core drives us to take meaningful, measurable action. Below, you’ll find a timeline showcasing the steps we’ve already taken to cut carbon emissions. We’re not stopping there, this timeline will continue to grow as we implement even more impactful initiatives.
2020
First electric refuse vehicle
In October 2020, the service added the first electric vehicle to it's fleet. We now have 4 fully electric vehicles in the service, with the rest of our vehicles operating on Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil).

Separate food waste trial conducted
Between January 2020 and March 2023 we conducted a separate food waste trial for around 10,000 vehicles.

LED light installed in the building and the flood lights that light the depot
The installation of LED lights means we use up to 80% less energy than traditional bulbs whilst also reducing our carbon footprint.
2023
Our vehicles started using Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO)
Since May 2023, 30 of our vehicles are now using HVO fuel, with our supplier being the first fuel supplier to be Certified Carbon Neutral to the PAS2060:2014 standard.

We commissioned our first Electric Road Sweeper
Producing no nitrogen oxides (NOx), our electric street sweeper provides greater environmental impacts, contributing to lowering our carbon footprint.
